Google Music Review

A few posts back I wrote a quick note about my pending invitation request with Google Music, and a plea for an outstanding online music player. Well, after waiting for a few weeks I finally got my invitation, and wanted to post a few opinions on the service, both likes and dislikes.

On the whole, the music player is OK. I’ve read some reviews that are blasting it for not being enough of a “music store” like Amazon’s Cloud Player service, as well as some praising it for being completely wonderful. So that I don’t bore you with the details of the service, here are a few of pros and cons from my perspective:

Google Music

I want an invitation.

Please? Somebody? Anybody?

I was this close to signing up with Amazon for their (limiting) 20gb account, when I happened to do a search for something and noticed that Google had launched their new Music hosting service. After watching the promo videos and seeing the “per file” pricing structure (currently beta, so it’s free), as well as seeing what you can do with the Android app (I have a Droid Incredible) I knew it was the one I’ve been looking for. No more NAS storage for my music at home that keeps it away from my laptop when I’m on the road. No more having to keep new music purchases synced between office and home computers. No more having to keep a set of music for my iPod available for iTunes to sync with. I’ll just plug my phone up in the car and listen to whatever I want. My audio life has never looked more beautiful.

The problem is that after 2 days I still don’t have an invitation. Is anyone else getting theirs? Will I be waiting a month? Will the service utterly disappoint?

More to come. I hope.

Time To Get Started

Just because I’m 8 years behind the curve when it comes to website design doesn’t mean I should give up before I even begin. I’ve discovered that website design and construction is something I genuinely enjoy doing, and something that I spend a good bit of my personal time doing even though I technically don’t have that kind of time available.

Born and raised in the midlands of South Carolina, I've been working in the IT industry since 1997, and building websites since before that.
